Think it's safe to say as a young girl growing up in the 90's I was obsessed with Disney movies. Who took her life lessons from the Disney Princesses such as Belle and Ariel, who cried with Simba and Bambi and loved the heroines such as Mulan and Pocahontas. I watched all these movies over and over again to the point that I'm surprised I didn't ruin the videos. Ah the days of VHS where you had to rewind the movie to watch it again. I still love Disney movies and some of the new ones are just as good. Getting to watch the classics and the newer ones with my niece and nephew are also fun times. Getting to see it through their eyes which are full of wonder, hope and excitement.
1. Beauty and the Beast
What more could you want than inanimate objects which can sing and dance? I mean after-all it is set in France. Or a story about learning to love. The animation of this movie is absolutely stunning. The ballroom scene is out of this world. It may be a classic but it is also timeless and the new live-action shows just how much this story really touches people. The songs are also what makes this one of the best Disney movies ever for me. Tale as old as Time just can not be topped. It's beautiful. I could watch this movie over and over again and never get bored of it. I probably did when I was younger.
2. The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Underrated movie in my honest opinion. But this may have been one of the first Disney movies I went to see in the cinema so it holds a special place in my heart. I remember dressing up as Esmerelda for Halloween on more than one occasion. I remember having the dolls too and a game for the PC which I sat and played far too much. God Help The Outcasts is one hell of a song and just go watch the Court of Miracles scene. It's my favourite part.
3. The Little Mermaid
Who doesn't remember the songs from this one? Kiss the Girl? Under the Sea? Part of Your World? Poor Unfortunate Souls? Ok I'll stop now. But no really how cute is Flounder? Probably has one of the best villains in the Disney universe with Ursula. It's just funny, good music and good story. Everything you want from a Disney movie.
4. Aladdin
Oh man does anyone remember the video game for this? It was the best!! I think I probably should have put this higher on the list because I'm remembering how much I bloody love this movie. It has three characters you are rooting for; Aladdin, Jasmine and the Genie. Think the lesson learned from this movie is do not steal a lot of bread. Jean Valjean can testify to that. Great music again with Friend Like Me, A Whole New World and Prince Ali or underrated song One Jump Ahead.
5. Hercules
I've always loved Greek mythology so a Disney movie centred on it was always going to grab my attention. The music is pretty damn 90's with this one with Boyzone and Ricky Martin featuring on the soundtrack. Still good music. I Won't Say I'm In Love is a favourite of mine. Actually Meg is probably one of my favourite female Disney characters. Hades is also one of my favourite villains. He is absolutely hilarious and Pegasus is adorable. Another one I remember going to see in the cinema.
6. Mulan
A story that tells girls and hopefully boys too that they can be and do what they want despite their gender. Girls are as just as good at strategy and fighting. That girls do not always have to fall in line and dress up and use make up or that finding a man is the most important thing to life even though in the end she does end up with Shang. Also that song I'll Make A Man Out Of You is just amazing and in a way hypes you up.
7. The Emperor's New Groove
"No touchy!!" I just love this movie. It's just all about the story and this was another one that had an amazing video game to go with it.
8.The Lion King
I remember seeing this in a bar in Spain. Not entirely sure why they were showing it in a bar but it was pretty cool. My brother and dad went to go watch football so my mum and I watched The Lion King instead. It is one of my favourite and earliest memories I have. Think I went through an obsession with this movie for a while. Scar is another one of those amazing villains and Jeromy Irons voice is just perfect. The music is fantastic with Hakuna Matata, Circle of Life, Can You Feel The Love Tonight amongst many others. Think this was the first Disney movie I ever cried at. How dare you make a 4 year old cry at a movie!!
9. Pocahontas
Definitely one where the VHS was nearly ruined by how many times I watched this one. Pretty sure I dressed up as Pocahontas a couple of times too. A movie that shows you that maybe the British weren't all they were cracked up to be and who the true savages were. I had tons of Pocahontas merchandise. Pencil cases and all that kind of stuff. The Disney store was amazing back in those days. It's still fun to go into but maybe I'm just too much of an adult now but I still feel like movie related products are not as good. Anyways... I love love love the music from this. Listen With Your Heart is just stunning. Of course Colours of the Wind is amazing too.
10. Frozen
This one was a tough one between Frozen and Tangled. But Frozen just edges it for me and it is also the only new one on the list. My mum and I went to see it in the cinema and it was the first time in a long time I got that excited feeling of watching a Disney movie that I did when I was a kid. Even as an adult it's so enjoyable. Funny, amazing and memorable songs, I mean everyone knows Let It Go. But it also has a very sweet story to it too. My niece absolutely loves this movie and it's nice to watch it with her every so often.
What are some of your favourite Disney movies or characters? Any favourite Disney songs you love?
[ Smiles ] I don't have a favourite Disney movie. However, I like the theme song for Pocahontas.
ReplyDeleteReally? Not into Disney or just there's that many good ones? Pocahontas is also underrated in my opinion.
