So my lucky arse has a boyfriend who decides to work at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. This meant for 3 weeks I didn't get to see him (it was longer last year because I was in New Zealand). When the setting up is all done he starts to get a rota which means I get to go through for a few days at a time each week, crash at his digs and maybe catch a show or two. It also meant that I was unable to make a post for the last week and a bit.
Week 1. 11th August - 13th August
This week we didn't do much at all. I arrived in Edinburgh, I love getting the train through as it only takes about 40 minutes and it's a good time to chill and listen to some music... well that depends on how busy the train is. Walked up to his venue and had our wee reunion. Got some food, went back to his digs and met his 1 flatmate who is cool. We watched Game of Thrones and went to bed. Next day we got up at like 3pm got ready, got some food, some coffee and then went back to the digs again. Watched Futurama, got some stuff to make dinner which was a disaster. Next day I went home. So definitely not the most exciting time but I enjoy every minute I get to spend with him.
Week 2. 18th August - 29th August
I stayed a little longer than intended the second time. I did get a lot done in this week though whilst almost getting run over because someone ran through a red light. Definitely was shaken up quite a bit. There was also a mouse in the flat he was staying in so that got a little interesting. I saw about 9 shows in total including Sam Simmons, Hot Brown Honey which was fantastic and Marcel Lucont which was one of my favourites. One of the cool things is I got to sit at the technical desk at the back during some shows. I really enjoy watching Chris work and I learned just how much work really goes into a show and the Fringe.I also had plenty of time to keep myself entertained so I went to the National Museum of Scotland and went to see the Jacobite Exhibition which was really interesting. For living in Scotland we really do not get taught enough about the Jacobites and the highland clearances which I personally think is an important part of our history. There was also some free music events at the museum and I just happened to catch it. The music on the day I was there were provided by a couple of guys who are part of a group known as Talisk and thought they were rather enjoyable. Upbeat and bouncy and very Scottish feeling.
On my last full day my friends came through and we went to see Thrones! The Musical Parody which was absolutely brilliant. Then I went and watched the fireworks display. Today I made my journey back home and have to admit it feels a little weird not being in a bustling city but I am very happy to be home and to go to sleep in my comfy bed.
Have you ever been to Edinburgh? Or been to an comedy and arts festival? Is there any shows you recommend for next year?
[ Smiles ] Hmm. You spent sometime with a mouse in a flat. Interesting indeed!
ReplyDeleteI should probably mention the mouse was not supposed to be there and not a pet mouse haha. Which wouldn't bother me all that much if mice didn't carry all sorts of diseases.
